Norman Rockwell, A Christmas Prayer, 1949
Now I lay me down to sleep.
My stocking’s hung with care.
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
Could a puppy fit in there???
The angels watch me through the night.
I bet a kitty would!
And keep me ‘til the morning light.
A white one will be good.
And when on Christmas morn I wake…
I’ll pet him and name him Ben.
…Teach me the path of love to take.
Dear Santa Claus, Amen.
