I first knew you
as a child.
A simple enough
concept,
easily grasped.
When you grew tired
of my upkeep,
I’d end.
It’s the cost of admission,
the penalty for taking
one too many breaths.
Still I understood,
and pondering this deal,
I shrugged.
What else can one do?
